How to Recover a Lost PC Password Using Command Prompt

Forgetting your PC password can be a frustrating experience, but with the help of Command Prompt, you can regain access to your computer without much hassle.

Step 1: Accessing Command Prompt

Begin by rebooting your PC. When the login screen appears, press 'Shift' key five times to open Command Prompt in administrator mode.

Step 2: Resetting the Password

Once in Command Prompt, type 'net user' and press Enter to display a list of user accounts on your PC. Then, type 'net user [username] *' (replace [username] with the actual username) and press Enter.

Step 3: Setting a New Password

Command Prompt will prompt you to enter a new password for the user account. Type the new password and press Enter. You will be asked to retype the password for confirmation.

Once done, close Command Prompt and log in to your computer using the newly set password.

Remember to create a password reset disk or jot down your password in a secure place to avoid such situations in the future.
